Hymn for Her - Lucy, Wayne and the AmAIRican Stream

Everyone knows that we love our duo bands. We've given you in depth coverage from Paleface, The White Stripes and The Black Keys all before they struck major success. Well here we go again. While I don't play guitar that well, I have always been fascinated by them. I enjoy collecting, repairing and building them as time permits. This passion lead me to the Cigar Box Guitar Festival here in Huntsville, Alabama at our favorite hangout The Lowe Mill.
I got to looking at the schedule of weekend events and noticed that an act I've not heard of was opening the fest. Me being me, I quickly popped out to their site to check them out. While checking out the 1 minute song previews on the site something rare happened. 45 seconds in, I bought the latest album. It was truly something I had never heard before and I loved it. While the album was downloading I decided to YouTube the band. (which is standard protocol these days, right?) Once I located their channel, it sucked me in. One of the first things I noticed was the fact that all videos seemed to be shot in a family movie style. This is because they pretty much are family videos. You see, Lucy, Wayne, 4 year old "Little D" and the family dog all live in a 1961 Airstream. Amazingly, they also record their music there.
I was able to catch up with Wayne, Lucy and daughter that Friday night. The show was absolutely mind blowing. I quickly realized why they were chosen to kick off the Cigar Box Guitar Fest when Wayne pulled out his beauty. It was a 3-string amplified and routed to a 1960's sounding effect pedal. He was also on the drums and harmonica. Throughout the show, the duo swapped around guitars, banjos and the CBG. They both have their own style of playing each instrument which made the show that much more interesting. Just like the instruments, the vocal leads went back and forth as well. Even as I witnessed it happening, I could not believe all that was coming from just two folks! About half way through the set I decided to take a break from filming and have a cold beer. I remember looking back at the crowd and thinking to myself "Wow, check out all those smiles". If you have ever been to the Lowe Mill Concerts on the Dock, then you understand how diverse the crowds can be. I could tell with one glance that everyone there was glad they came out. The band played for around 3 hours. They covered some songs, but only obscure ones. They did some lesser known Bob Dylan and John Prine to name a couple. While chilling out for a sec, I looked over to my right and noticed their daughter sitting front row with some snacks. Dare I say she was behaving better than most of the adults there.
After the show, I spoke with Wayne, Lucy and the little one. They were just as I expected them to be; polite, grounded and thankful to their fans. I made it a point to tell Lucy how amazed I was at their little girl's grown up demeanor and mannerism. I asked how the 4 year old adapted to being on tour full time to which she replied with a smile: "Oh, we were the ones who had to adjust. She has been on tour since she was born." Lucy went off to tend to the young 'en so Wayne and I had a chat. I asked him about prior musical endeavors and he told me a few stories about some of his past bands. As it turns out, Wayne was a member of a hip-hop group called The Goats in the early nineties. (This group was arguably the most underrated hip-hop group... ever). They toured with acts such as Cypress Hill and Public Enemy. They also played a few big festivals such as Lollapalooza alongside Rage Against The Machine, Primus and Oasis. Wayne and I also talked about another project both him and Lucy were a part of that really blew me away. Dubbed the "Screw the Van Tour", they walked from Philly to DC with their instruments and dog. Rather than me trying to explain, I'll let you watch some of the coverage on your own:
Lastly, I asked "Little D" what instruments she likes to play. Wrapped tightly around Mom's leg, she shyly responded "Well,... (pause) I really like the ukelele because it's smawwer. I also pway dwums, sing and like the piano". Here is a clip of her performing:

To sum it up, Southern Tracks is now a dedicated fan of not only this band's art, but their unique family, values, dedication and everything they stand for. Keep an eye on 'em, folks!
Lucy Tight & Wayne Waxing are “Hymn For Her”, a band that hails from anywhere they can park their trailer.
H4H live, tour and record in their 16 foot, 1961 Bambi Airstream (comes with dog and baby). Their new release, ‘Lucy & Wayne and THE AMAIRICAN STREAM’ was entirely recorded in their classic trailer on a coast to coast U.S tour. They stopped at various campgrounds and friends driveways between shows, set up their gear in their Bambi/home recording studio, rolled tape and rocked out. Armed with 2 bullet mics, a three-stringed broom handle/cigar box, banjo, dobro, bass drum, hi-hat, and harp, this ‘lil duo causes massive earthquakes wherever they play.
